The second week of the international break is always notoriously dull, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have plenty to discuss in this weeks edition of the column. Barnsley appointed a new manager this week with an unknown manager from Austria.

League One Bolton face a new challenge this week as the EFL are disappointed with how an independent commission decided Bolton should be punished for missed matches against Brentford last season and Doncaster. While the ugly side of the game revealed itself once again in League Two. All of this to come in this weeks edition of the column.

Barnsley’s Managerial Makeover Barnsley sacked Daniel Stendel almost a month and a half ago on the 8th of October as the Tykes sat 23rd in the table. With the target of Championship survival the Yorkshire have finally appointed their managerial successor in an unknown Austrian entity.

Gerhard Struber is the new manager of the Championship side swapping challenging the top of the Austrian Bundesliga with Wolfsberger AC for a relegation scrap in the second division of England. The appointment certainly raises eyebrows with the Austrian yet to manage outside of his homeland. That is a huge risk for a side rock bottom of the Championship to appoint a manager without any experience in this country let alone the league. It is one that could well pay off, but all things considered that seems unlikely.

Bolton’s New EFL Challenge The EFL have come out and stated they are not happy with the decision of an independent commissions conclusion over how to punish Bolton following their inability to compete against Brentford in the Championship this season and Doncaster this campaign.

The commission concluded a five points deduction would suffice, but the EFL disagree and will look to appeal. Bolton really need a break the Wanderers have only just reached positive point figures having already had and 11 point deduction, a further five would be more than an adequate punishment.

The Ugly Side Invading the Beautiful Game Mark Sampson has been charged by the FA following remarks made about a potential Stevenage transfer target in the summer. The caretaker manager is charged after saying the League Two side ‘should not sign player as he was Nigerian’. An FA statement read: Mark Sampson has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3.

“It is alleged that a comment made by the Stevenage FC caretaker manager breached FA Rule E3(1) as it was improper and/or abusive and/or insulting.”

It’s nothing short of disgusting and is not the first time the former England women’s manager has been involved in a race scandal after incidents occurring when with the national side. To be involved in one scandal is disgusting enough and can be brushed off as a mistake, but twice and it looks like there’s a real issue. Racism in any form has no place, the FA need to prove this and finally make an example of someone.
