Christmas is upon us meaning the time for consuming ridiculous amounts of food and drink is here and with that comes the equally ridiculous congested football schedule. And we love it!
With the busy schedule comes plenty of EFL news including, the close proximity of the Championship play-offs, the countries top goal scorer continues to fly high, letting your own fans down and Bury’s legal challenges continue.
The Play-Off Race
The Championship play-offs have always been a close race and while to some it might still be a bit early to look towards the outcome of the season it has just surpassed the half way mark. And with that only two points separate 3rd-7th and eight teams are within five points of the play-offs.

It’s all to play for especially when considering how far Aston Villa were off last season and so it’s not unrealistic to say any side with a good run of form in the top 17 could make it, as all of those sides are within ten points. With the top two almost a forgone conclusion, but never certain with Leeds, the play-offs are the space to watch.
The Countries Top-Goalscorer
Swindon Town are flying high at the top of League Two, no thanks to the exploits of striker Eoin Doyle who has picked up a staggering 22 goals already this season. To put that in perspective the next top-goal scorer in the division is teammate Jerry Yates on ten, with no player from any of the other sides in the league yet to hit double figures.
Nicknamed the ginger Pele, Doyle is on-loan from Bradford, who sit four places below the Robins in the table. The Irish forward has come out and spoke of his desire to remain in Wiltshire, but a recall isn’t off the cards with his parent club. It certainly will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Worrying Times For Macclesfield Town
Troubled Macclesfield Town were handed a “zero capacity notice” for their home game against Plymouth, a 532 all-round trip. However the League Two side didn’t serve notice of this until the Friday night before and for sure their were fans that would have already made the long trip.
But problems don’t end their for the Silkmen who were docked six points last Thursday for non-payment of wages and failure to fulfil a previous fixture. There is also the possibility of a further four points to be deducted which would see Macclesfield drop into the relegation zone. Worrying times for the fans of Macclesfield and EFL fans in general after already losing one side this season.
Winding-up order for Bury
The High Court has dismissed a winding up order over Bury over an unpaid tax bill. The case was due to go to an insolvency court, but the debt had since been paid and thus the winding up order dismissed. No details are known about how much was paid. The Phoenix club started by fans also announced they have submitted an application to join the NWCL in the ninth and tenth tier of English football.
